Standard 6 - Professional Responsibility: Physical Education candidates demonstrate behaviors essential to becoming effective professionals. They exhibit professional ethics and culturally competent practices; seek opportunities for continued professional development; and demonstrate knowledge of promotion/advocacy strategies for Physical Education and expanded physical activity opportunities that support the development of physically literate individuals.

6.a Engage in behavior that reflects professional ethics, practice and cultural competence.

I demonstrate cultural competence by being aware of the varying cultural practices of the students in my classroom, and modifying lessons to meet their needs. I was professional and ethical in the way I presented myself to students, staff and the school community. I made sure to be punctual, appropriately dressed, and carry myself in a professional manner.

Self Assessment: Target - I achieved this standard by first researching the school community that I would be working with, and preparing to meet the needs of students. I researched the school, District 6 and the surrounding community to understand the cultural background of the families attending the school, but also provide resources for those families. I wanted to be able to offer suggestions when students were looking for opportunities to live a healthy and active lifestyle outside of school.

6.b Engage in continued professional growth and collaboration in schools and/or professional organizations.

I have been engaging in professional development opportunities for the the last two years. Since the moment I joined the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) Colorado/America, my desire for professional growth has multiplied.  I am most proud of being a student representative on the SHAPE Colorado board.  I have been able to collaborate with some of the best Physical Educators in the country.

Self Assessment: Target - I achieved this standard by not only attending professional development conferences, but presenting at them as well. I have presented on game creation, and how to implement different levels of technology in to the P.E. classroom at the SHAPE Colorado conference. I have also presented to our profession's emerging leaders at the 2019 SHAPE America conference.

6.c Describe strategies for the promotion and advocacy of physical education and expanded physical activity opportunities.
I love promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for both adults and children, regardless of what their abilities may be.  I have been involved in the sport of sled hockey for the last two years and it has opened a lot of doors for me.  I have become an advocate for the sport of sled hockey and individuals with various physical limitations.  I work everyday to ensure that I am creating opportunities for all individuals to get moving and be active.

Self Assessment: Target - I achieved this standard by working with the City of Greeley to create a sled hockey program. The city currently has 5 sleds that are available for the public to use.  Anyone and everyone is now able to play the sport of hockey at the Greeley Ice Haus.  The city has hired me on as their sled hockey coach as well.
